Identification and Facilitation of Research
The science and technology of flood damage and flood repair to buildings continues to develop as a response to increasing incidences of flooding, albeit at present on a piecemeal basis. This event will seek to co-ordinate existing research findings and identify areas requiring further research and development. In particular the workshop will focus on research needed to underpin the development of novel techniques, components and processes in the flood repair domain.
It will also offer a forum for identifying appropriate funding organisations for members interested in developing new research projects. In order to encourage the development of multi-disciplinary and collaborative research projects the event will bring together researchers and industrialists from different backgrounds and professions. This will help bring about effective solutions to some of the challenges faced by the flood repair sector.
Speakers and working titles of presentations include:
- Annegret Thieken (GFZ Potsdam) - New flood damage estimation model based on the Elbe flood of 2002
- Andrew Tagg (H R Wallingford) - Research on flood resilient construction
- Chris Netherton (National Flood School) – PAS 64
- Jessica Lamond (University of Wolverhampton) - Impact of flooding on residential property values
Representatives from BRE’s ‘Flooding Think Tank’ and the Environment Agency (R&D funding/climate change) are yet to be confirmed.
Final versions of all presentations, plus notes of the Q&A sessions will all be available on this site during week commencing Monday 18th September
